The Environmental Protection Act 1986 and Environmental Protection (Noise) Regulations 1997 deal with noise.
For residential noise complaints it is recommended that you follow the advice on the Department of Environment and Conservation website in the first instance (See Department of Environment and Conservation website under Pollution prevention/ noise/ noise complaints). If you cannot resolve the matter amicably, contact the Shire’s Environmental Health Officer who can be reached by telephone on 9734 9000.
The Department of Environment and Conservation manage noise from industry, and the Department often require industry to establish noise complaint hotlines or similar.
For noise complaints in relation to Ewington Mine, a 24 hour hotline has been established. Residents should telephone 0438 917 779.
Other complaints regarding noise from industry should be directed to the South West Region office of the Department of Environment and Conservation who can be reached by telephone on 9725 4300.
Dust complaints are handled in a similar manner to noise. For residential dust complaints contact the landholder first and if it cannot be resolved amicably contact the Shire. For dust complaints from industrial or mining development, contact the South West Region office of the Department of Environment and Conservation on 9725 4300.
