Collie is very well appointed to accommodate major industrial development within its Shire. Well serviced by both road & rail with the major Port of Bunbury only 60kms away, Collie is ideally located. In addition the existence of two Power Stations to the east of the Collie Town, and a significant natural water resource, ensure that Collie is well placed to develop both major and minor industry.

Council and the Community have recognised these assets and as a consequence placed an Objective in its 2002-2007 Strategic Plan to “Support existing and assist in developing new industry”.

Historically a Coalfield (the only one in Western Australia), Collie currently has the presence of two major Coal Mining Companies, Griffin Coal Mining Company, and Wesfarmers Premier Coal Ltd, who together employ 570 people. In addition to Mining, Power Generation has also played an important role in the development of Collie, with the Muja Power Station currently providing employment for 239 people.

Collie also has Worsley Alumina within its Shire Boundary, which is a significant employer in the South West with some 930 employees.
